Episode 07

All of us feel emotions, and it’s a fact that it’s one of the most vital factors that drives us. But emotions are complex.  Every day our daily experiences can impact them.  The weather, our favorite song on the radio, or an instagram post you see– all of these can affect our mood, and change the way we feel and impact how we think. The problem comes when we allow our feelings to automatically influence how we deal with others.  When our emotions become intense they make it extremely difficult for us to access effective social skills. We can feel like our emotions are controlling us and how we respond to others.  Increasing your emotional awareness and learning how to manage intense emotions is critical to building and maintaining healthy relationships.

In this episode, we will introduce you to some strategies to regulate negative, unwanted emotions in three steps:

  1. Changing our body chemistry

  2. Changing our thoughts

  3. Changing our behavior

Finding and keeping stable, close relationships in college is NOT easy.  Try one of these tools to manage your emotions in such a way that you stay in the driver’s seat.
